Summer Sun Protection ☀️ MY TOP PICKS

As the days grow longer and we are enjoying more sunshine it is so important to adjust our routines to protect our skin, hair, and eyes from from the damage of the sun. Here are my top tried and true picks to protect yourself from sun damage year round!

As many of us have experienced, sunburns SUCK. Not just because they are uncomfortable but because they damage the skin deep into the epidermis. Sun damage can prematurely age the skin, causing fine lines and wrinkles. Being proactive to prevent burns means preventing signs of aging. Yes please!

It’s not just our skin we need to remember to protect, our eyes and hair also can be damaged by the sun. From making our hair brittle, burning our scalp, or damaging our vision.. sun protection from head to toe is so vital.

Here is a round up of my top picks for summer sun care, from skin to hair and eyes for yourself and the family too.

Skincare 🧖🏻‍♀️

Face | I love this daily moisturizer with SpF, I wear it every day during the spring/summer months. It’s non greasy, lightweight, and also wears extremely well under makeup and NO WHITECAST (you know, that sunscreen white tint? Not cute!). I like to go extra on protection and use a CC+ SpF 40 foundation (my fave foundation year round). They also have an oil-free version (matte) and a new radiant version. [PS for a lmited time use my code ADVENTUROUS20 for 20% off your itcosmetics.ca purchase on anything on their site!] All are full coverage with SPF but can also be medium coverage with finger application or a wet beauty sponge. I lock it in with a regular setting mist AND an aerosol sunscreen. It doesn’t NEED to specifically be an spf setting spray, any one will do. I love Coola (also in fragrance-free) and Kate Sommerville SPF Makeup Setting spray [a super fine mist that you can reapply over your makeup throughout the day!]. I learned from J.Lo’s makeup artist that he sets her makeup with aerosol sunscreen for a locked in dewy finish. Who doesn’t want to look like glowy goddess Jennifer Lopez?!


Friendly reminder when applying your skincare and SPF to apply all over your face, ears, and down your neck and chest! Of course for your body sunscreen always apply it everywhere and blend it up underneath the edges of your clothes to avoid unsightly tan lines.

For the family, I always slather them with Thinkbaby. It passes the test for not having ingredients harmful to marine life or reefs, and its skin friendly!

Don’t forget your lips! While I use the Laneige day and night to keep my pout hydrated, I also make sure not to skip sun protection on my lips! This lip balm has an SPF of 15 and comes in a few different lightly tinted shades (and clear too!)

 

Hair 💁🏻‍♀️

For prepping my hair I use this hair primer that has uve blockers. If I know I am going to be outside I use my fragrance-free Coola spray, and don’t miss your hair part! Usually I prefer a super cute sun hat, like this one or this one. 

Eyes 🕶️

There are so many cute options out there for sunnies. You might be surprised to know that not all protect your eyes from the sun. My biggest tip is to ALWAYS make sure that your sunglasses have broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. This is not a time to cheap out or get the sunglasses that look cute but don’t protect your eyes. This mistake can cause serious damage! There are tons of options that are super stylish AND protective. Here are some of my faves, at multiple price points. Protect those peepers!
